How We Chose These Albania Hotels
During our five-month stay in Albania, we lived in Tirana, Durrës, Vlorë, Sarandë, and Berat, and also took a road trip across Albania to Shkodër, Korçë, and Gjirokastër. We were looking for something different each time. A nice view or patio, an affordable base close to the city. A dreamy beachfront spot on the Riviera. A historic guesthouse inside a UNESCO old town. So, here’s how we narrowed down this list:

📍 Berat, Albania

GrandView Hotel
📍Berat | Book Now!
⭐ Personal Favourite | 🥂 Romantic Escape
Berat Castle District (5-minute walk to the Ottoman houses)
Waking up at the GrandView feels like stepping into a living museum, with its traditional stone architecture and panoramic terraces overlooking the Mangalem and Gorica quarters. The vibe is “Ottoman elegance meets modern luxury”—perfect for travelers who want to be right in the heart of history without sacrificing 5-star comforts. I personally loved watching the sunset over Mount Tomorr from the rooftop bar with a glass of local Kallmet wine; it’s easily the most romantic view in the city.
Pros
- The views are actually insane—you can see the whole city from the terrace
- The rooms feel super cozy but still high end with the exposed stone walls
- The staff are lovely and the breakfast spread is massive (and delicious)
Cons
- Those Berat cobblestones are no joke (it’s a bit of a climb with bags)
- Parking is a bit of a squeeze since you’re right in the historic district
Perfect for: History buffs, couples on a romantic getaway, or anyone wanting a luxury base to explore Berat’s UNESCO heritage sites.
Note: Be sure to request a room with a “City View” balcony to fully experience the magic of the evening lights
📍 Livadi Beach, Himarë

Ionian View B&B
📍Himarë | Book Now!
Livadi Beach (Steps away from Paralian Beach Bar)
⭐ Mid-Range Gem | 🏖️ Beachfront Bliss
Ionian View B&B is the ultimate “Goldilocks” spot in Himarë, offering a high-end feel without the splurge. Wake up to turquoise sea views before heading to the backyard garden patio for a fresh breakfast handmade by the owners. It is the Riviera’s best mid-range gem, providing a peaceful, family-run atmosphere that feels more like a private villa than a hotel.
Pros
- Excellent value for money
- The location is unbeatable for beach lovers; you are right on Livadi Beach and just steps from the chill vibes at Paralian Beach Bar
- The traditional breakfast is legendary, served fresh by the owners on their beautiful garden patio
Cons
- A 10 minute drive from the main town (car or taxi required)
- Limited nearby grocery options since you are right on the beach strip
Perfect for: Solo travelers, couples looking for a quiet escape, or digital nomads who want to work with a sea view.
Grab Your Room Before Someone Else Does
📍Shkodër City Center, Albania

Golden Sleep Hostel
📍Shkodër | Book Now!
Rruga Kardinal Mikel Koliqi (5-minute walk from the city center)
⭐ Budget Best | 🎒 Backpacker Hub
Golden Sleep is the ultimate base for travelers who want to save their lek without sacrificing a good night’s rest. Famous for having the “comfiest beds in the Balkans”—complete with privacy curtains and individual outlets, it offers a social yet chill vibe. Whether you’re fueling up for the Valbona hike or relaxing in the leafy courtyard, it’s the perfect spot to meet fellow trekkers.
Pros
- Unbeatable price point
- The staff are experts on local trekking and mountain bus schedules
- The location is perfect for exploring the city center and renting bikes
Cons
- Shared bathrooms and kitchen can get a bit crowded during the busy hiking season
- The quiet, chill atmosphere might be too low key if you are looking for a party hostel
Perfect for: Budget backpackers, solo travelers looking for a social community, and hikers needing a reliable, clean base before heading into the Albanian Alps.
Pro tip from Victoria & Garett: Hotels along Albania’s Riviera fill up fast in July and August. We’d recommend booking at least 2–3 months ahead for peak summer. Shoulder season (May–June and September) is our sweet spot — perfect weather, fewer crowds, better prices, and the water is still absolutely gorgeous.
📍 Himarë, Albania

A Bit About Albania
For those who are early in their planning, here’s your quick Albania overview!
Albania sits on the Adriatic and Ionian coasts of the Western Balkans, and honestly, it’s still one of Europe’s most underrated destinations. The Albanian Riviera delivers turquoise water and dramatic cliffs that rival Greece or Croatia at a fraction of the cost. Inland, you’ve got UNESCO World Heritage cities like Berat (the “City of a Thousand Windows”) and Gjirokastra, plus jaw-dropping hiking in the Albanian Alps up north. And the capital, Tirana? Colourful, energetic, and full of great food and a buzzing café culture.
Most visitors fly into Tirana Nënë Tereza Airport (TIA) or arrive overland from Montenegro, North Macedonia, or Greece. Transport is affordable, locals are genuinely welcoming, and the food is absolutely delicious. Albania completely won us over.
📍 Durrës, Albania

Final Thoughts on the Best Hotels in Albania
Whether you’re here for the turquoise waters of the Albanian Riviera, the cobblestoned charm of Berat’s old town, or simply a glass of crisp Kallmet as the Tirana sun goes down, picking the right hotel in Albania will genuinely elevate your whole trip. Albania might be compact, but the accommodation scene runs all the way from brilliant budget hostels up to some truly gorgeous boutique properties that wouldn’t look out of place in a luxury magazine.
